Meeting the needs of our learners:
Research shows that students learn best when in a heterogeneous environment consisting of many learning styles and all different levels of knowledge. However, we acknowledge that there is a time and place where separating the students based on level can be beneficial. All grade levels have a set block of time every day to address these needs. The Intervention and Extension block is 30 minutes that teachers hold small group instruction, leveled based activities, and work for each level of student.
Students in 3rd-8th grade take the M-STEP, the required assessment by the state of Michigan in the spring. Additionally, Kindergarten-8th grade students take the Measurements of Academic Progress (MAP) test in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to give data to best instruct the child on their individual needs. MAP test scores are sent home with student report cards so parents can measure their child’s academic growth throughout the year.
