Dear Woodward Academy Families,
I hope you are as excited about the new 2016- 2017 school year as I am. This year, the “New” Woodward Academy is focused on “Double A” which stands for Academics and Athletics. Of course, it is my first priority to ensure that each student receives the highest level of education in a supportive learning environment. However, in order to provide improved instruction we needed to hire a highly qualified, instructional team. It is with great pleasure I welcome to Woodward Academy our new certified teachers. Additionally, we are offering a Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics, (STEAM) elective. Students with the STEAM elective will experience “hands-on” science and mathematics activities using an engineering focus.
Next, we are extremely excited about becoming a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. With two Deans of School Culture, two Behavioral Specialists and a full-time Social Worker, our support team will provide students with the assistance they need to stay focused on instruction. All of our staff has participated in training in the (PBIS) program during the summer. This behavioral program helps students focus on incentives for great conduct as opposed to imposed consequences for negative conduct. It also helps students develop leadership qualities using the well-known books by Stephen and Sean Covey; 7 Habit of Happy Kids and the Leader in Me.
I look forward to meeting each student on the first day of school Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
Students should plan to arrive at 7:40 am for a full day of school. Please note: Attendance will be taken on the first day of school, September 6th. In addition, any student not in attendance on the first day may run the risk of losing their spot. Please make sure your child is in class DAY 1!
Together, let us make it another great year at the “New” Woodward Academy!
